1) American history—the harsh realities of life during the Great Depression
The illustration by Steinbeck of the epic era in American history known as the Great Depression is brilliant and genuine and creates an authentic image of the times. Having the ability to read an entertaining work of literature, while being immersed in such a real setting, is a valuable history lesson for all those that choose to partake. Much can be gained from reading what life was like for an average person in this era and being able to recognize the impacts it had on individuals as well as the Country as a whole. Steinbeck does an astounding job of appropriately depicting the era and creating a way for his readers to be engaged with it. This on its own is a reason this book should be read[2].
2) The power of friendship and human connection
"Of Mice and Men" tells the story of two friends, George Milton and Lennie Small, Small, who share a deep and powerful bond despite their differences. George and Lennie's friendship is an unusual one, as Lennie is a mentally disabled man who often relies on George for guidance and protection. Despite this, George is fiercely loyal to Lennie and goes to great lengths to ensure his safety and well-being. Through their friendship, the novella illustrates the power of human connection and the positive impact that it can have on people's lives. George and Lennie's friendship provides them with a sense of purpose and belonging, and helps to alleviate the loneliness and isolation that they might otherwise feel.
3) Discrimination and Inequality
